Hopedale Mennonite Church was founded in the 1850’s, and is based in Anabaptist Doctrine. Originally known as the Hopedale Amish-Mennonite Church, church services were originally held in homes. Nearly all early church members were Germans who immigrated in the early 19th century.
As more moved into the area, they became more organized and held increasingly routine church services. The original church structure was erected in 1876. Sunday School services began in 1885 and quickly became a very integral part of the church congregation.
The current sanctuary was built in 1926, with several renovations and additions to follow. Today, Hopedale Mennonite Church is affiliated with Mennonite Church USA and the Illinois Mennonite Conference.
