Reminders
Just a reminder, we will be gathering for worship at Roanoke Mennonite Church on Sunday, April 13. Worship will begin at 10:30am and will be followed with a potato bar meal provided by the youth to raise money for the Mennonite Convention.
Because we will not have worship in our building on Sunday, here are some material suggestions you can read through and think about over the next week as we get closer to Easter.
Reading Plans
If you’d like to consider the Lent theme “Christ Collides…”; which focuses more on this past Sunday’s scripture and will be the focus for the week of April 13-20, use the adapted readings and prompts from the Lent at Home guide:
- Thursday, April 10 – Read Luke 18:31-34. What assumptions do you make about what it looks like to follow Jesus? How do your assumptions compare to Jesus’ ways?
- Friday, April 11 – Read Luke 18:35-43. What do you need or deeply desire? Boldly cry out to Jesus, like the blind man did.
- Saturday, April 12 – Read Luke 19:1-10. Is there anything you would like to ask forgiveness for? Climb a tree like Zacchaeus did or climb a ladder or go to the top floor of a building. How does the world look different when you’re up high?
- Sunday, April 13 is Palm Sunday: Christ collides with our expectations. Read Luke 19:29–44. Prayer: God, we confess that we hold too tightly to our expectations. Help us release those expectations, so we can be ready for your love to guide us.
- Monday, April 14: Jesus surprises us, and Jesus surprised people long ago, by not being the kind of king they expected. Think about a time you expected something different from what actually happened.
- Tuesday, April 15 – Make and/or eat some pretzels! https://buildfaith.org/making-pretzels-a-traditional-activity-for-lent/
